"Ahla Leila" is from the CD by the same name by Leila HAddad. I choreographed it for the "Inner City Children's Touring Dance Co." in Miami, 1996. It was featured in the ground breaking theatre show "Emerald Dreams" in Miami Beach, 1997. I brought it back to life in China, 2011. Veil opening, zils, and each dancer does an improvised solo. Lots of skills gained in a 14 min. dance.

"Ethiopia Dances for Joy," filmed, produced and directed by Tamalyn Dallal, and edited by George Achi, is a fascinating look at Ethiopian dance and culture. The full, 50 min. documentary, can be ordered from www.DanceOnFilm.info, www.TamalynDallal.com, or www.ZamaniCulture.com. In this film, reknown dancer Tamalyn Dallal goes to Ethiopia. With help from a circus school, she explores life in Ethiopia during Orthodox Easter. She winds up on the same flight as the Pope of the Ethiopian Orthodox church, and sees fabulous processions of priests, bearing colorful umbrellas and huge, ancient crosses. In other towns, she films 17 dances, has an encounter with hippos at the base of the Blue Nile, and travels to a holy Muslim city with ancient dances and customs all their own.

Shanghai, China, Oct., 2013, One of my assignments for students was to give them music and have them express spontaniously without choreography. At the end, one student, from Manchuria put on a song from her culture (different parts of China have different cultures and dialects). This is about a Goddess in shamanistic tradition. I didn't know anything. I just danced.
